Glacier City Kids Outdoor Education Program

Adventure • Stewardship • Production


Schedule:



11am rendezvous each Saturday at the Girdwood Community Center next to the firehall.

11:15am depart for trailhead to embark on an adventure for the day exploring one or more wilderness destinations.

5pm Parents may pick up their children at the Girdwood Community Center.


Activities include:

  • Shelter and Fire building
  • Finding Food and Water
  • Map and Compass Navigation
  • Multi-media: Journal Writing / Photography / Digital Video
  • Trailwork
  • Tree planting
  • Picking up garbage in the forest and along streams
  • Producing educational programs*

What to bring:


  • Lunch
  • Warm clothes and raingear depending upon weather
  • Boots and extra socks
  • Knapsack (small backpack) and water bottle

*Highlights from each week are compiled for television, DVD and the worldwide web so family, friends, and sponsors may enjoy vicariously the discoveries and lessons experienced on each outing. Other educational programs include creating and updating manuals, web-logs, photo albums and various curriculum for both experiential and vicarious education.
